The problem
A calendar governed by Hebrew dates and day/night periods cannot rely on civil dates alone. Local sunrise and sunset affect boundaries, past events influence future calculations, and different customs require different rule choices.
The information is personal, so reminder wording and the choice between local storage and account synchronisation are part of the product design, not finishing touches.
The solution
Lunarah combines location-aware calendar boundaries with configurable calculation rules and a timeline derived from recorded events. Presets make common preferences easier to set up while keeping individual rule choices visible.
The app presents the same calendar through multiple languages and right-to-left layouts, supports a private local mode alongside account synchronisation, and uses neutral reminder wording. It is a calendar aid under development, with questions of practice remaining for the user's qualified authority.
The decisions behind it
- Time is location-dependent
- Day and night boundaries follow the selected location. A midnight-based calendar would not express the same events correctly.
- Rules vary by custom
- Calculation choices are settings rather than one hidden universal rule, and prior events influence what is shown next.
- Privacy reaches the notification
- A reminder can be useful without putting personal calendar details on a lock screen or in an email subject.
