Jewish Timeline map with Exodus events, historical people and a vertical year timeline
Jewish Timeline's current interactive map, showing the Exodus era and event details.

The problem

Historical events, journeys and people's lives overlap across time and geography. A list of dates loses the geographic relationships; a map full of markers loses the sequence. Traditional Hebrew chronology and approximate civil dates also need to remain understandable together.

The solution

Jewish Timeline connects events, people, places and source links through a shared timeline and world map. Events can span time, journeys unfold along routes, and nested stories provide detail within a larger historical period.

Separate map and time controls let readers explore geography without accidentally moving the year. Bilingual labels and shareable links preserve the selected event, person, place or moment, making the experience useful for returning to a specific part of the story.

The decisions behind it

One moment, several stories
Events and lifespans overlap. The interface needs to show what is active without turning every historical record into a permanent map marker.
Map movement versus time movement
Readers need to zoom and pan a map independently of moving through the chronology. Separate controls preserve those two intentions.
